Amniotic Band Syndrome

چکیده
Amniotic band syndrome (ABS) is a set of congenital malformations attributed to amniotic bands that entangle fetal parts during intrauterine life, which results in a broad spectrum of anatomic disturbances ranging from minor constriction rings and lymphedema of the digits to complex, bizarre multiple congenital anomalies incompatible with life. ABS is not very often, but should be considered in every newborn with congenital anomalies, especially defects of extremities and/or body walls. ABS can be diagnosed prenatally by ultrasound; otherwise, the defects are seen after birth. Child's karyotyping is of great importance, in order to avoid misdiagnosis and incorrect information of recurrence risk. A team of specialists should be included in the treatment and follow-up of children with ABS, according to individual needs of every single patient. The aim of this paper is to point out diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in newborns with ABS trough the report of two cases. Acta Medica Medianae 2009;48(2):44-48.

Amniotic Band Syndrome with the Involvement of Trunk: A Case Report
Amniotic Band Syndrome is a sporadic congenital disorder that may result in constriction bands, amputation and multiple craniofacial, visceral and body wall defects. Its incidence is estimated at approximately 1:5000 to 1:10,000 pregnancies. Band formation most frequently affects the distal segments, including the hand. We report a case of constriction amniotic bands involving the trunk.

In this case report, it is our purpose to relate our findings concerning bloody discharge as an ominous sign in the conservative management of premature rupture of membranes, (PROM) as well as to present relevant findings of the amniotic band syndrome such as amputation of one leg, constriction rings in two fingers, and pseudosyndactyly in the toes of the remaining foot in a 28 week old ne...

متن کاملThe cobweb syndrome: first trimester sonographic diagnosis of multiple amniotic bands confirmed by fetoscopy and pathological examination.
Amniotic band syndrome is a well described clinical entity presenting with deformities of the limbs, thorax, craniofacial skeleton, soft tissues and umbilical cord, but it still lacks a precise definition and a coherent hypothesis for its pathogenesis. We report on a case of first trimester diagnosis of amniotic band syndrome by sonography and fetoscopy. This revealed multiple abnormalities inc...

Congenital amniotic band syndrome is a rare congenital abnormality with multiple disfiguring and disabling manifestations. A wide variety of clinical deformities are encountered, ranging from simple ring constrictions and minor digital defects to major craniofacial and visceral defects [1]. The abdomen is a rare location, and thus far, only a few cases of the abovementioned syndrome in the abdo...
